The showers will fall as rain or hail initially but will turn increasingly to sleet and snow later in the day with some settling of snow possible on hills by evening. Afternoon temperatures will range from 5 to 8 degrees in a strong to gale force westerly wind, strongest along exposed coasts.

Meanwhile: Six more die as -20 degree temperatures sweep across Poland | Heavy snowstorms also reached Turkey, paralysing its biggest city Istanbul where almost 65 centimetres (25 inches) of snow fell, forcing hundreds of flights to be cancelled on Saturday.
