Handouts from the Minister

Handouts from the Minister

To a casual observer, it might appear that Boyle Chamber of Commerce and Boyle Town Team rely greatly on the generosity of Roscommon County Council to fund further developments in the town of Boyle. Monday’s meeting of those local bodies in the Stool Factory moved the begging bowl up a notch by including Minister Frank Feighan in the mix.
• Yes, it is probably true that having a local Government Minister has often drawn funding for local projects. Examples might go back to the €87 million on roads plus benefits enjoyed by the Castlebar when P. Flynn was a Minister and more recently, Michael Ring’s ‘gifts’ to the West of Ireland. However, we remember that ‘the evasive’ former Minister Denis Naughten was asked at a meeting in Boyle “What can you do for Boyle?” his answer was an emphatic “Nothing … that’s up to yourselves, I am a government legislator.”
• I feel certain that Minister Frank Feighan is fully aware of our needs and will lobby on our behalf while diligently attending to his brief as a government minister.
