Drone racing takes off

 

Love them or loathe them, drones are in full flight these days. Aerial photography enthusiasts have embraced them, providing a bird’s eye view of everything from the Wild Atlantic Way to weddings.
However, if you plan to buy a drone – any weighing more than 1kg has to be registered with the Irish Aviation Authority. Generally they can’t be used in certain areas – restricted airspace, over crowds of people – and must stay within 300m of pilots. Taking off and landing from private property requires permission from landowners.
