Boyle Celtic returned to winning ways in the Roscommon & District Premier League following a four goals to two victory over Ballymoe on Sunday afternoon.
The away side made the brigher start as Niall O’Donoghue, James Bolger and Mick Corrigan all had opportunities to score in the opening ten minutes.
Following these chances, the opener did arrive after twenty-five minutes. A searching Danny Browne free kick was met by Lee McKillen who headed in his second goal in as many games.
Following this, Ballymoe pressed for an equaliser, with the main highlight being number 12’s speculative effort from outside the area.
Aaron O’ Connor’s side got their second right before half-time. Another delivery Browne was cleared to John Connolly; the centre back found Corrigan, who acrobatically finished to the net.
Half- Time: Ballymoe 0, Boyle Celtic 2.
Eight minutes into the second half, two became three. Following a mis-timed clearance in the Ballymoe defence, Niall O’ Donoghue darted down the wing, fired a brilliant ball down the wing, to which Corrigan tucked away.
O’ Donoghue and Shane Battles both tried to increase the margin thereafter.
The game was not over yet. A deep cross reached Damien Goggins who volleyed home. The defecit was reduced further only minutes later as a mix up in the Boyle box was capitalised by Ballymoe’s James Connaughton.
Both debutant Reece Conroy and Bolger prevented certain equalisers.
The result was put beyond doubt as a poor clearance from Ballymoe’s sub goalkeeper was capitalised by Corrigan, who spectacularly from outside the halfway line found the net sparking wild celebrations on the pitch and in the stand. That goal was Corrigan’s sixteenth league goal of the season.
