The Ardcarne Remembers Committee has organised commemorative weekend events to take place from April 29 to May 2, 2016 in the Crossna Community Centre, Cleen Hall, Knockvicar.

Venues: Crossna Church (Friday 29th April); Cleen Hall, Knockvicar (Saturday 30th April); Ardcarne Church and Graveyard (5pm, Sunday 1st May).

Programme of Events

Friday 29th April

Official Launch of the Weekend (Crossna Church) (MC – Helen Smyth)
8.00 –8.10pm Welcoming Address (Gerard Conlisk, Chairman of the Ardcarne Remembers Committee).
8.10 – 9pm Official Launch of the Weekend and Opening Address by Michael McDowell SC.
8.30– 9.30pm Reception in the Parish House adjacent to the Church.

Saturday 30th April

Conference (Crossna Community Centre, Cleen Hall) (Booking essential)

10.45-11.30am May Moran (Local Historian and niece of Patrick Moran, Crossna) –

11.45 – 12.45pm Turtle Bunbury (Independent Scholar) – Easter 1916 – American Perspectives
12.45 -1pm Patricia Molloy (niece of Joseph Molloy) – Joseph Molloy, Aughnafinigan – a Teenage Victim of the War of Independence.
1.00-2.15pm Break for Lunch (Not Provided). Lunch can be brought locally in Clancy’s and in Tara Marina.

Session Three (Chair, Tony Bambrick, Ardcarne Parish Graveyards Committee, Cootehall)

Sunday 1st May
2pm Unveiling of the Information Board at Crossna Church (Charles and Rita Moran)
2.30-3pm Unveiling of Commemoration Stone for Patrick Moran at Crossna (SeánMoran)*
3.15 -3.45pm Unveiling of Commemoration Stone for Joseph Molloy at Aughnafinigan (John Molloy)
4.00-4.30pm Unveiling of Commemoration Stone for Terence Glynn (McGlynn) at Drumshinney. (John Bambrick and Noel McShera).
4.45pm Bus back to Crossna
5pm Ecumenical Service at Ardcarne Church followed by the unveiling of the Memorial to Ardcarne’s war dead in the period 1914-23.

Transport will be provided to take people from Crossna to Aughnafinigan, then to Drumshinney and back to Crossna. There is no place to park cars so please avail of the transport provided to those two sites.
