Tuesday, August 28th: There was a showing of a Maureen O’Sullivan 1.5 hour documentary covering her Boyle visit in 1988 in King House auditorium. A most enjoyable section of the film covered the concert in The Royal Hotel on the Sunday evening in which many of the best of Boyle entertainers participated. The event was ‘videoed’ for the committee by Donal Farrell and Michael Beirne and featured Agnes Devine Conlon, Maye Conroy, Rosaleen Moran, Mary Ryan, Jim Casserly, Sister Richard, Josephine Carroll, the McTiernan family from Ballyfarnon, Gerard Tivnan, Josie McDermott, Eileen McGowan, Anne Conboy, Kathleen Dwyer Morris and of course, very prominently, Maureen O’Sullivan herself. The star of course was Maureen who came across as a warm and knowlegable guest and the people of Boyle were outstanding extras over that memorable weekend.
Brendan McGee did a great editing of the various happenings, and I hope the film as shown may be made available for sale as a magnificent memory of the event and probably the only record of some amazing talent in Boyle at that time.
