We were lucky in Boyle. The town was as empty as Christmas Day while the forecast “bigger wind than Storm Debbie” simply did not happen. A small number of trees and quite a number of branches fell but some of our golden autumn leaves are still to be seen.
• All schools will be closed again today – Tuesday 17th October following Storm Ophelia
Counting the cost of Ophelia in this area:
• Almost every business shut for several hours
• A few trees fell and had to be removed
Met Eireann got a helluva scare some years ago when they failed to spot the approaching Fastnet Boat Race storm disaster. Met’s forecast for the effects of Ophelia were accurate, but not for the Boyle area.
