I will miss Fred Perry R.I.P.
Sunday 4th March: Just a week ago I chatted with Fred in Boyle Motor Works as he collected his morning newspaper. “Sean”, he said “Why don’t you join Stan and me in Wynne’s Pub for a chat. You know we meet there every evening at 5pm for 2 pints of Guinness and a lively chat and then go home” Sadly I will never be able to take him up on his invitation.
Some 50 years ago I used to paint Window Posters every week for Fred to hang in his VG Supermarket on Main Street, Boyle. With encouragement from Fred, I became a full-time signwriter and subsequently a sign maker for more years than I can remember.
I will never forget Fred’s generous offering to me “If you are ever in trouble Sean, your family will always have food for as long as I have a supermarket”
God Bless you Fred, you were “one in a million”. May you Rest in Eternal Peace.
