Senator Frank Feighan has warmly welcomed today’s commitment by Transport Infrastructure Ireland executives (TII) to fund the provision of right hand lanes at both the Cootehall and Croghan junctions on the N4 between Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon.
“TII executives confirmed this very welcome news at a meeting in Leinster House today between local campaigners and public representatives.
“Eugene Dwyer, Senior engineer at Roscommon County Council, told the meeting that one of the biggest problems in addressing the dangers posed at these two junctions was that accidents were not being reported.
“Now that TII have been provided with data on traffic volumes on this section of road in the last week, the executives told the meeting that right hand lanes are justified at the junctions. I welcome TII’s commitment today that they will fund the works once a planning and design report is prepared.
“A consultant or possibly their Roads Design Office in Mullingar will now look at the solutions required and a report will be submitted to the TII for funding approval. It is hoped that all these works will be carried out by the end of next summer following a planning and design process.
“I want to complement the local community and local politicians who have campaigned so vigorously on this issue and today’s positive outcome is just reward for their effort.
“I now look forward to these turning lanes being put in place as soon as possible in order to address the dangers which have been highlighted for many years by local people.”
