King House Open for Business

Following a request from Boyle Town Council, Roscommon Co Council has issued a written statement regarding its involvement in the future of King House.

"Roscommon County Council is committed to the operation, management, safeguarding and development of King House. It's development as a vital cultural asset in the county and one that can be further and continually developed and underpinned by a strong programme of activity remains central to our ambitions

We equally appreciate and support its retention as a civic building of status and as a vital community space. We recognise the importance of this facility from a heritage, historical, arts collection and community perspective and we are determined to secure its long term future just as our record in the past will testify.

Maintaining and promoting King House as a unique tourist attraction is of utmost importance to Roscommon County Council. King House functions as a tourist attraction but also houses a wide variety of activities throughout the year including meetings, exhibitions, concerts, craft fairs etc. It is a valuable resource available to the wider community.

King House is open and available for business. The tourist attraction element of the house is nearing the end of its tourist season for 2011 and the opening times will change after September 30th 2011. The tourist season for the house is April - September, Tuesday to Saturday. Pre-booked groups are welcome all year around. The house always held a series of events throughout the year and these will continue at the house.

Some staff changes are taking place at King House. One full time staff member will maintain King House. The house will be adequately staffed and managed through the Community & Enterprise Department with support through the Library, Cultural and Arts Services of Roscommon County Council. Seasonal staff will also be employed for the 2012 tourism season. Staffing issues are a matter for the management of Roscommon County Council

Roscommon County Council looks forward to a continued role for King House as one of the tourist attractions of the county
